Prosur to Present Clean-Label Food Production Solutions in Asia

According to PwC research, 67% of consumers in the Asia-Pacific region are concerned about ultra-processed foods, while 62% are concerned about the levels of additives and preservatives. Both figures are higher than the global average. Meanwhile, according to Innova Market Insights, the penetration of food and beverage products carrying clean-label claims in Asia increased by 3% between 2024 and 2025.

Tighter regulation is becoming an additional factor for manufacturers. A new standard setting maximum levels of heavy metals in dried meat products is coming into force in China. In Indonesia, new requirements provide for mandatory food labelling and product reformulation to reduce salt, sugar and fat content.

Prosur develops ingredient systems that enable manufacturers to eliminate or reduce the use of nitrites, phosphates, sulphites, benzoates and sorbates. The company’s solutions are also designed to reduce refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and sodium while maintaining the taste, texture, colour and shelf life of products.

“The rules of food are changing in Asia. Consumers are demanding recognisable ingredients and increasingly rejecting ultra-processed foods, while regulators are stepping up scrutiny. Manufacturers need to adapt to these conditions while maintaining product taste and the ability to produce at an industrial scale,” said Simon Claessens, Global Director of Sales and Business Development at Prosur.

At FI Asia, the company will present the Prosur Get It Natural Toolbox. It includes natural systems for replacing chemical additives in processed meat products, fermented ingredients designed to inhibit the growth of yeasts and moulds, a sweetener based on Mediterranean carob, and soluble carob fibre that can partially replace cocoa.

According to the company, its natural systems for meat products make it possible to eliminate nitrites, phosphates and sulphites while maintaining product yield, shelf-life stability, juiciness, texture and colour. The fermented ingredients are produced from upcycled plant-based raw materials using water infusion without solvents or additional additives.

Prosur’s proposed alternative to conventional sweeteners is based on the naturally occurring sugars in carob and does not require the use of artificial sweeteners. Soluble fibre derived from upcycled carob is intended to reduce manufacturers’ dependence on cocoa, improve product structure and optimise production costs.

“Our philosophy is simple: we protect food with food. By combining natural ingredients, fermentation technologies and food science, we help manufacturers create scalable solutions for products with clear and understandable ingredient lists,” Simon Claessens added.

In addition to FI Asia, Prosur will participate in China International Meat Industry Week, which will take place in Qingdao from 10 to 14 September.

Prosur has operated in the food biotechnology sector since 1965. The company develops natural ingredient systems for the meat sector and other segments of the food industry, including solutions based on fermentation, fibre and plant-based raw materials.
