Honduras to Invest $150 Million in New Dairy Plant

Central America's dairy sector is poised for a transformative leap with a monumental investment in Honduras. The renowned company Lacthosa will allocate US$150 million for the construction of a new milk processing plant in San Pedro Sula, supported by the National Investment Council (CNI). This initiative not only seeks to replace a facility that is over seven decades old but also to establish a modern and efficient infrastructure that meets the highest international standards in food safety, sustainability, and agro-industrial innovation, setting a precedent for regional dairy production.
The formalization of CNI's support for Lacthosa was achieved in a meeting between the Minister of Investment and CNI's Executive Secretary, Miguel Medina, and the company's executives. Medina highlighted the project's immediate positive impact, which is already creating jobs, and its potential to strengthen the positioning of Honduran products in international markets. This government backing is crucial for investor confidence and the advancement of large-scale agro-industrial projects, boosting local economic development.
The CNI has committed to providing free advice and support to Lacthosa, facilitating administrative processes, securing strategic alliances, and accessing key incentives. This collaboration will be channeled through fundamental institutions such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), the Ministry of Finance (SEFIN), and the Ministry of Economic Development (SDE). The synergy between the public and private sectors is essential for the success of initiatives aimed at modernizing and expanding the productive capacity of the Honduran dairy sector.
