Will Venezuela's Political Climate Affect Dairy Exports?

Overview

Dairy exports from Colombia to Venezuela have been a significant part of the trade relationship between the two countries. Despite political challenges, there has been growth in this sector.

Market Insight

In 2024, Colombia's exports to Venezuela totaled $885.5 million, marking a 47% increase compared to the previous year. Although Venezuela ranks 12th among Colombia's trading partners, expectations were higher for a spot in the top 10.

Challenges Ahead

Javier Díaz Molina, President of Analdex, points out that while the current figures are promising, projecting beyond $1 billion in exports for 2024 seems unlikely given political uncertainties. "We must ensure stable business conditions to thrive," he adds.

Export Details

To date, Colombia has exported 7,515 tons of whole milk powder, among other dairy products, to Venezuela, driven by companies like Colanta and Super de Alimentos.

Future Outlook

The upcoming political changes in Venezuela could impact future trade volume. Moreover, developments like the potential approval to export processed coffee to Venezuela could bolster future trade relations.
