Suzuki Motor Corporation has launched its inaugural biogas production facility in Agthala, Banaskantha district, Gujarat, India. This initiative also produces organic fertilizer as a byproduct, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices.

The Banas Suzuki Biogas Plant was developed in collaboration with Suzuki's wholly owned subsidiary, Suzuki R&D Center India, under an agreement signed in September 2023 with the National Dairy Development Board and Banas Dairy, a major dairy cooperative. The plant's daily output of CBG can fuel approximately 850 compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, assuming a daily travel distance of 60 kilometers per vehicle.

The opening ceremony attracted a significant gathering, including Indian Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah, nine parliament members, government officials, and around 25,000 dairy farmers. Shankar Chaudhary, the Chairman of Banas Dairy and Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, was also present.

Following the inauguration, key attendees, including Minister Shah, inspected the biogas facility. Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki, emphasized the company's commitment to a carbon-neutral and recycling-based society, leveraging rural India's resources. He stated, "We firmly believe that this initiative, pursued in partnership with the dairy co-operative of India, will unleash the significant potential inherent in rural communities and foster regional prosperity."
