Sainsbury's £5bn Investment to Secure Long-term Farming Partnerships

Sainsbury's, a leading UK retailer, has committed £5 billion to farming investments in fresh produce, dairy, meat, and poultry across the UK and Ireland. This initiative is part of the company's effort to reinforce its supply chain stability amid varying operational costs and global uncertainties.

The investment will support more than 2,500 British farms through long-term contracts by 2027. Sainsbury's has expanded its partnerships with 62 British berry farms, including new five-year contracts with companies like Angus Soft Fruit, Chambers, Soft Fruits Direct, J.O. Sims, and Dyson Farming.

CEO Simon Roberts emphasized the importance of providing farmers with the assurance needed to plan and invest, stating, "When farmers know what we'll buy, at what price and for how long, they can plan, invest and keep producing the great-tasting, responsibly sourced British food our customers trust."

The agreements will cover a range of produce, such as milk, carrots, mushrooms, and chicken, ensuring a steady supply for consumers. Additionally, the retailer aims for 60% of its own-brand suppliers of fresh produce, dairy, meat, fish, and poultry to be in contracts exceeding five years by the end of 2026.

This strategic move by Sainsbury's highlights its commitment to enhancing the resilience of the British agricultural sector, providing a model for long-term stability and growth in the industry.
