The Chinese market represents significant potential for Russian dairy producers. According to the chairman of the board of directors of Health & Nutrition (formerly "Danone Russia"), Ruslan Alisultanov, the low level of consumption of fermented products and cheeses in China opens a "window of opportunity" for domestic exporters.

Despite the significant volume of milk production in China (40 million tons per year), the per capita consumption is only 42 kg. At the same time, 80% of this volume accounts for regular drinking milk.
Demand for more complex dairy products, such as yogurts, kefirs, and cheeses, is only beginning to form, and their high cost currently limits consumption volumes. This segment represents a promising direction for Russian companies, which can offer competitive products.
Ruslan Alisultanov emphasized the difference in dairy consumption between Russia and China. In Russia, one person accounts for about 250 kg of dairy products per year, with more than 60% of this volume consisting of fermented drinks, cottage cheese, curd snacks, and dessert categories.
Russian milk production currently amounts to about 34 million tons per year. According to an optimistic forecast, with an annual growth of 3%, by the early 2030s, Russia may reach a production volume of 40 million tons. This will allow not only to meet domestic demand but also to increase export potential, including to promising markets such as China.
