Recall of Dairy-Free Chocolate Bar Due to Milk Contamination in UK
The Food Standards Agency has issued an alert following the recall of a chocolate bar by Buttermilk Confections, due to an undeclared presence of milk. The product, Honeycomb Blast Choc Bar, is sold in major UK supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s. It is marketed as dairy-free but contains milk, posing an allergy risk.
The recalled batch is identified by the code BM26105, with a pack size of 45g and a best before date of 15 June 2027. Consumers who have purchased this product are advised to return it to the store for a full refund.
Allergy UK notes that cow’s milk allergy is common in infants and young children, though most outgrow it by school age. In some cases, this allergy can persist into adulthood, potentially causing severe reactions such as anaphylaxis. Other symptoms include itching, swelling, rash, vomiting, and respiratory issues.
The Honeycomb Blast Choc Bar is priced at £1.60 and is also available in alternative food shops. It features a light honeycomb center enveloped in plant-based chocolate. Notably, the product won a bronze award at the 2022 Free From Food Awards in the confectionery category.
