The Rathfriland Mart in Ireland was bustling last Friday with a remarkable turnout of 700 cattle. The event saw a lively trade in the dropped calf section, with calves up to nine months old reaching as high as £1,610 for a Shorthorn heifer calf owned by a farmer from Mayobridge.
Weanling bulls also garnered significant interest, with a 456kg Belgian Blue from a Dromore farmer topping out at £2,220. Simultaneously, fat cows achieved a high of £2,960 for an 896kg Limousin.
Dairy heifers at the event were another highlight, with top prices hitting £2,990. Heifers reached £2,520 for a 674kg Charolais, while bullocks fetched up to £2,480 for a 618kg Limousin.
A separate trade for sheep was equally noteworthy, with fat ewes selling robustly, drawing a top price of £210. Spring lambs were also in demand, reaching up to £150.
