Food Production in Russia Decreased in July

Rosstat reported changes in production volumes in the Russian food industry in July. Compared to the previous month, food production decreased by 1.8%, while beverage production increased by 1.3%. Compared to July last year, food production rose by 3.9%, whereas beverage production decreased by 2.4%.

From January to July, food production increased by 0.7% year-on-year. Beverage production in the same period decreased by 1.6%. Rosstat separately provided data on key categories of meat, dairy, and fish products for the seven months.

Meat production, excluding poultry, reached 2.3 million tons over the seven months, which is 5.7% higher than the same period last year. Poultry production amounted to 3 million tons, decreasing by 5.1%. Sausage production was 1.4 million tons, 2.6% less than a year earlier.

In July, meat production excluding poultry rose by 9.3% year-on-year to 0.4 million tons. Poultry production decreased by 5.9%, also to 0.4 million tons, while sausage production fell by 6.2% to 0.2 million tons.

From January to July, milk production, excluding raw milk, decreased by 0.5% to 3.5 million tons. Butter production dropped by 5.8% to 190,000 tons. Meanwhile, cheese production increased by 3.3% to 512,000 tons, and cottage cheese production rose by 9.4% to 315,000 tons.

In July, milk production increased by 0.2% year-on-year to 0.5 million tons. Cheese production totaled 77.4 thousand tons, 1.3% more than a year earlier. Cottage cheese production rose by 10.1% to 44.2 thousand tons, while butter production decreased by 1.9% to 27.1 thousand tons.

Fish production, including processed and canned fish, crustaceans, and mollusks, amounted to 2.4 million tons over the seven months, 4.3% less than the same period last year. In July, production of these products reached 0.4 million tons, increasing by 11.8% year-on-year.
