Mumbai wholesale milk prices will rise to ₹102

The Bombay Milk Producers Association (BMPA) will raise the wholesale price of milk in Mumbai from ₹93 to ₹102 per litre on September 1, 2026. The revised price will apply across the city and its adjoining metropolitan supply networks.

BMPA said the rate would remain unchanged for six months, through February 28, 2027. The ₹9 increase is among the association’s steepest single-step price adjustments in recent history.

Dairy farmers and operators of tabela, or cattle sheds, in the region have pointed to higher operating costs. Prices for green fodder, chuni—grain husks—and oil cakes have risen over the past year, while transport charges and livestock-maintenance expenses have also increased.

The wholesale change is due to reach consumers through several retail channels from September 1. Local milk vendors, neighbourhood dairies and doorstep tabela suppliers are expected to pass on the full increase, or possibly a slightly higher amount, to households.

The higher procurement cost will also affect businesses that use milk in production. Bakeries, sweet shops and eateries are among the establishments expected to face increased input expenses, while curd, paneer and festive sweets are identified as other dairy products that may see price adjustments in the second half of the year.

The announcement comes before the festive season, when household demand for dairy products traditionally forms part of daily consumption and food preparation. The stated reasons for the revision were the increased costs reported by farmers and cattle-shed operators, rather than a change in the duration of the pricing arrangement.
