Rathfriland Co-op Sees Dairy Cow Sales Reach £3150 Amid Strong Cattle Market
Rathfriland Co-op experienced a robust cattle market last Friday, with nearly 500 cattle on offer. Dairy cows achieved a peak price of £3150, highlighting the demand for quality livestock. The event featured a wide range of cattle, including dropped calves, weanling bull calves, fat cows, and cows with calves.
Among the notable sales, a Limousin heifer calf from an Annaclone farmer fetched £1100, while weanling bull calves reached up to £2350 for a 525kg Limousin from a Downpatrick farmer. Fat cows were also in high demand, with a top price of £2400 for a 733kg Limousin.
The market also included significant transactions for other breeds, with heifers topping at £2300 for a 646kg Charolais and bullocks reaching £2400 for a 738kg Limousin. The diverse range of cattle and strong sales figures underscore the vitality of the livestock market in the region.
Additional sales highlights included a Charolais heifer calf at £1100 and a top price per kilo of £5.41 for a 525kg Limousin weanling bull calf. The strong market performance indicates a healthy demand for quality cattle across various breeds.
