The Russian ice cream market started 2026 with a decline in production. By the end of the first quarter, the output decreased by 12.3% compared to the same period last year—from 123.7 thousand tons in 2025 to 108.4 thousand tons in 2026.
Ice Cream Production in Russia Decreases by 12.3% in Q1 2026

The most significant drop occurred in February, when production fell by 20.5%. In January, the decline was 11.9%, and in March, it was 6.1%. The more moderate trend in March may indicate a gradual slowing of the decline, although the market remains under pressure.

The decrease in production in Russia could also impact the export strategies of manufacturers. Given the more challenging domestic dynamics, companies may actively seek opportunities in foreign markets, including Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and other regions.

However, the situation in the Kazakh market shows that exports can no longer rely solely on the supply of standard assortments. The strengthening of local producers, the growing importance of branding, changing consumer preferences, and limited distribution channels require Russian companies to adopt a more precise strategy, according to Dmitry Dokin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of "Shin-Line" (source).
