PDFA Distributes High-Yield Buffaloes to Aid Flood-Affected Farmers in Punjab
The Progressive Dairy Farmers Association (PDFA) has initiated a significant recovery effort by distributing 50 high-yield buffaloes to farmers impacted by the severe floods in the Amritsar district of Punjab in August 2025. This initiative, valued at Rs 51 lakh, focuses on delivering Murrah and Nili-Ravi buffaloes to bolster the affected families' dairy production capabilities.
The PDFA's effort is a crucial part of a broader rehabilitation strategy that began earlier this year. In the first phase, Rs 55 lakh was allocated for providing essential inputs such as fodder, veterinary medicines, seeds, manure, and silage to support the immediate needs of the flood-affected farmers. This phase ensured the survival and sustenance of existing livestock and agricultural activities.
According to Daljit Singh Sadarpura, President of the PDFA, the two-phased program not only aims to restore dairy operations but also to provide a sustainable path for economic revival. The distribution of buffaloes marks the transition to a more sustainable phase of recovery, ensuring long-term stability and productivity in milk production.
The PDFA has emphasized its commitment to utilizing the remaining funds from the relief corpus for further rehabilitation efforts within the affected regions, reinforcing the association's role in facilitating post-disaster recovery in the agribusiness sector.
