Oatly has unveiled a new 1.5L carton of its popular barista oat milk in the UK, catering to cafés and coffee shops that use large quantities of the product. This new, larger format will be available at major food service wholesalers from next month, providing a cost-effective option compared to the smaller 1L pack size.

The barista oat milk recipe remains unchanged, featuring oats, water, rapeseed oil, salt, vitamins, minerals, and an acidity regulator to prevent splitting in coffee. The larger pack size aims to meet the needs of professional and home baristas alike, ensuring they have a steady supply of rich, creamy oat milk for their beverages.

“We took inspiration from our normal-sized US packs and made an extra-large pack for all true baristas, pretend-baristas, and other coffee lovers who like their rich, creamy, and micro-foamable oats in abundance,” says Oatly on its website. “The neutral taste comes from a combination of premium oats and unsaturated fat that will make any hot drink, like coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, seem like it’s undergone some kind of upgrading process.”

This announcement comes shortly after reports that Oatly had scrapped plans to build a new facility in Peterborough, England, choosing instead to leverage its existing European facilities to serve the UK market. Despite this change in plans, Oatly's commitment to expanding its presence in the UK remains strong.

Oatly recently reported a 1.8% increase in revenue for Q1 2024, totaling $199.2 million. The positive financial results also boosted the company’s stock by 3.42%, pushing it above the 200-day line.

“Presence in cafés is extremely important for Oatly and is always part of our market entry strategy,” stated Svenja Fritz, Oatly Managing Director for DACH and Poland, in a recent interview with vegconomist. “We have our own team of baristas who are solely responsible for identifying the speciality cafés that are relevant to us and building and expanding relationships in this area. We want everyone to always have the option of switching to Oatly wherever they consume cow’s milk. Ultimately, we measure ourselves as a company by how many litres of cow’s milk we can replace with oat drink.”

With this new offering, Oatly continues to solidify its position in the dairy alternative market, supporting its mission to provide sustainable and delicious options to a growing number of consumers.
