Nestlé and First Milk Launch Initiative for Young Dairy Farmers
Nestlé, in collaboration with First Milk, has launched the Young Dairy Leaders initiative, aimed at nurturing the future of dairy farming by equipping young farmers with necessary skills and knowledge. Developed with 8point9 Training and Education, the initiative addresses the need for practical learning opportunities that align with the operational realities of modern dairy businesses.
The launch event took place at Dovenby Hall in Cumbria, where participants were exposed to successful business practices from the motorsports sector, providing insights into handling pressure and decision-making. The event featured discussions on stress management, leadership, and resilience, with guest speakers such as Cumbrian dairy farmer Robert Craig sharing his experiences in building a sustainable dairy business.
Mike Warmington, regeneration lead at Nestlé UK & Ireland, emphasized the importance of building long-term resilience in the supply chain, highlighting the role of regenerative farming practices. He stated, "Young Dairy Leaders is a great step forward to help make sure the next generation of farmers keep doing what they're doing today for many years to come."
The initiative plans to conduct a series of events in 2026, targeting First Milk members seeking learning opportunities that enhance both business performance and personal growth. A strong sense of community is central to the initiative, aiming to foster a supportive network of skilled farmers.
Both Nestlé and First Milk recognize the initiative's timely introduction as the dairy industry adapts to economic pressures and a shift towards more regenerative systems. Their goal is to establish a lasting network of confident farmers capable of shaping a sustainable future for the industry.
The program is expected to play a critical role in the transition towards regenerative farming methods, ensuring the sustainability and resilience of dairy businesses in the coming years.
