Muller Receives Approval for New Silos at Market Drayton Facility

Muller, a leading dairy company, has been granted approval by Shropshire Council to replace seven storage silos at its Market Drayton site with new ones that are 28 meters high, 10 meters taller than the current silos. This decision is part of Muller's ongoing efforts to enhance its facilities and ensure continued growth.

The new silos will occupy the same footprint as the old ones and will include revised pedestrian access and egress arrangements. The planning notice confirmed that the development would have a limited impact on the area's character and appearance, as it aligns with the adopted development plan.

The site, which has been used for ingredient storage for over two decades, is situated within an established employment area with vehicular access from the A53 roundabout. The council's decision highlighted that there are no ecological or flood risk concerns associated with the project, as the site is located in Flood Zone 1.

Muller had previously announced a significant investment in the future of its Market Drayton facility, indicating plans for redevelopment to expand storage, food production, and distribution capabilities. The approval of the taller silos is seen as a step towards achieving these objectives.

The planning decision emphasized that no additional extraction, filling, or ventilation equipment will be introduced as part of the new silos, which will be constructed using materials that match the existing structures within the complex.
