Univers2020 launches OPENSORT semen-sorting technology in France
According to Univers2020 General Manager Dany-Pierre Rondeau, OPENSORT brings together several semen-sorting solutions and is intended to broaden access to the technology across the livestock industry, giving farmers and artificial insemination centers operational autonomy and control over their own genetics and laboratory processes.
The model is built around flexibility: users can align operations with their financial goals and strategy. Rondeau notes that OPENSORT is designed to run without rigid production requirements or fixed operating frameworks, allowing laboratories to retain full control over their processes and genetics.
At the core of OPENSORT is the company's in-house development: the α-BEV flow cytometer and a semen-processing technology. According to Univers2020, this fully European sorting technology was developed over several years and is already in use at a number of artificial insemination centers. The system delivers high fertility and purity of sorted semen, and it can sort semen for male and female offspring simultaneously, or sort part of an ejaculate while the remainder is processed conventionally.
OPENSORT is owned by Univers2020, a company within the IMV Technologies group, which specializes in animal reproduction biotechnologies.
