Milky Mist Dairy to Establish Major Milk Processing Facility in Maharashtra
Milky Mist Dairy Food Ltd, a company based in Tamil Nadu, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to set up a significant milk processing and dairy products manufacturing facility in the state. This agreement was signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and K Rathnam, CEO of Milky Mist Dairy.
The facility, which represents an investment of approximately Rs 1,130 crore, will have an initial processing capacity of 10 lakh litres of milk per day, expandable to 25 lakh litres in subsequent phases. It will produce a variety of dairy products, including paneer, yoghurt, curd, mozzarella cheese, ice cream, butter, and ghee.
The project will be developed on a 48.15-acre land parcel allotted by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. The implementation will be phased according to demand growth and procurement expansion.
All milk for the facility will be sourced locally within Maharashtra, supporting the state's dairy supply chain and offering a stable market for local milk producers. This initiative is expected to create direct employment for approximately 800 people, contributing to regional economic development.
K Rathnam commented on the strategic importance of this investment, highlighting Maharashtra's favorable policies and infrastructure as key factors for this expansion. The plant is expected to enhance Milky Mist Dairy's presence in Western India, complementing its existing operations.
Founded in 1997 by T Sathish Kumar, Milky Mist Dairy has grown to become a significant player in the Indian dairy industry, focusing on branded, value-added products. The MoU signed at Davos formalizes the company's expansion plans, initially reported in June 2025, confirming its commitment to Maharashtra's dairy market.
