Madhya Pradesh's Kamdhenu Scheme Boosts Dairy Sector with Subsidies
The state of Madhya Pradesh, under Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, has initiated the 'Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Scheme' to enhance its dairy sector. Announced on April 25, 2025, the scheme aims to establish Madhya Pradesh as India's 'Milk Capital' by professionalizing the dairy industry.
The scheme provides 25% to 33% subsidies to entrepreneurs establishing large-scale dairy units with up to 200 animals. A single unit consists of 25 high-yielding cattle or buffalo of a single breed, requiring a minimum of 3.50 acres of land for each unit.
The financial plan includes up to ₹42 lakh per unit, with bank loans covering the remaining costs after subsidies. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries receive a 33% subsidy, while others receive 25%.
Participants must undergo training in modern livestock management. Priority is given to existing livestock farmers with established supply links to dairy unions or cooperatives, ensuring transparency and industry integration.
By combining financial support with scalability and professional development, the scheme is expected to create jobs and boost rural income, increasing organized milk output and strengthening the state's position in the global dairy market.
