In a landmark move, Greenhills Farm, known as Ireland’s largest dairy farm, has transitioned towards a sustainable future by leasing part of its land for solar production.

Partnering with renewable energy titan Ørsted, the East Cork farm aims to establish a 250 MW solar project expected to supply power to over 52,000 homes annually.

This evolution reflects the farm’s continued commitment to sustainable practices, having already been recognized for its advanced dairy technologies, including a herd of over 1,000 cows.

"We are proud to have built a reputation as a leader in Irish dairy, and now we are excited to play a role in providing reliable renewable energy generation," remarked Tom Browne of the Browne family who manage the farm.

Ørsted’s Vice President of Onshore Ireland & UK, TJ Hunter, acknowledged this partnership as a foundational step towards achieving Ireland’s goal of 8 GW solar energy by 2030.

East Cork’s conducive solar conditions further support this venture, indicating a promising stride towards energy sustainability.
