In a significant development for Wales' agricultural sector, proposals to establish a Welsh Sheep Centre and a separate cattle dairy project at the historic Coleg Glynllifon in Llandwrog have received approval. This initiative aims to enhance knowledge within the agricultural community and showcase the advantages of sustainable sheep milk marketing.
The plans, presented by Wyn Thomas of Grwp Llandrillo Menai and agent Sioned Edwards of Cadnant Planning, involve constructing a new 300-ewe sheep shed, milking parlour, and dairy facility. This project includes the demolition of existing sheds, the creation of livestock facilities, a milking parlour, landscaping bund, and various associated works.

The sheep scheme seeks to establish a model that promotes knowledge in the agricultural sector, demonstrating the benefits of supporting sustainable sheep milk marketing in Wales. According to Arwel Thomas, presenting the application, the project could generate additional income for agricultural enterprises and play a vital role in developing the dairy sector.

The second approved application involves the demolition of an existing dairy farm building and cow shed on the northern part of the Coleg Glynllifon farm. The plan includes the removal of two existing slurry tanks, the construction of a new livestock shed and milking parlour, and the erection of a rotating cow milking parlour attached to a new cattle shed.

The livestock scheme is considered acceptable, aiming to contribute to education in agriculture and foster thriving communities in Wales. The proposals received unanimous approval from the Cyngor Gwynedd's planning committee, with 11 members voting in favor, marking a significant step forward for these innovative and sustainable dairy projects.
