Guernsey Dairy Seeks £6 Million for Essential Repairs
Guernsey Dairy is facing a significant funding request as deputies are asked to approve £6 million for necessary repairs. The current facility, managed by the States' Trading Supervisory Board (STSB), has been described as "no longer fit for purpose." This comes after a previous proposal to construct a new dairy was rejected by the States, despite warnings that maintaining the existing structure could incur higher future costs.
The STSB oversees the government-owned dairy operations and has highlighted the urgency of the repairs to ensure continued functionality. This funding request is part of a larger capital scheme portfolio presented by the Policy and Resources Committee, which includes various infrastructure projects such as a new bus depot and airport radar replacement.
Politicians are expected to vote on these proposals in April, with the dairy's funding request being a critical component of the agenda. This decision will influence the future operational capabilities of the Guernsey Dairy, which plays a vital role in the region's agro-industrial sector.
