Gokul Hikes Milk Price, Launches Cheese: Stability for Farmers

The Kolhapur Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh Limited, popularly known as Gokul, has announced a Re 1 per litre increase in the procurement price for cow and buffalo milk. This decision, celebrated as a 'Diwali gift', is part of Gokul's strategy to offer better returns to dairy farmers. The cooperative, recognized as Maharashtra's largest milk cooperative, credits efficient financial management for enabling these price hikes.

Minister Hasan Mushrif highlighted the steady increments over the past four and a half years, totaling an increase of eight rupees for cow milk and fifteen rupees for buffalo milk. Besides the price hike, Gokul introduced two new products: Gokul Cheese and Gulab Jamun, reflecting its shift towards value-added dairy products. Additionally, it commenced the sale of animal feed from its Mahalaxmi Factory.

The initiative has not escaped scrutiny, notably concerning the reduction of debentures to expand market presence in Mumbai and Pune, drawing criticism and protests from notable figures including Satej Patil and former director Mahadevrao Mahadik. Despite the controversy, Gokul remains focused on financial growth and market expansion, reinforcing its position in India's milk economy.
