Farmers' Union of Wales Reaffirms Leadership at Annual Meeting

The Farmers' Union of Wales (FUW) has confirmed the reappointment of its leadership team, with Ian Rickman continuing as president and Dai Miles as deputy president. This decision was made during the union's Grand Council meeting held in Aberystwyth on June 11.

Ian Rickman, a farmer from Carmarthenshire, first took on the role of president in 2023. He has been a long-standing advocate for the agricultural sector in Wales and has held various key positions within the union over the years. Notably, Rickman has been involved in representing the interests of the union's members at governmental and industry levels.

Rickman operates a 220-acre upland farm with his family near Llandeilo, focusing on sheep and beef farming alongside a partner, Sean Jeffreys. Following his re-election, Rickman expressed his gratitude and commitment to addressing the challenges and opportunities facing Welsh agriculture.

Dai Miles, the re-elected deputy president, is a dairy farmer from Pembrokeshire and one of the founding directors of Calon Wen, an organic milk co-operative. This co-operative markets members' milk and has developed its own range of dairy products available across the UK.

Miles transformed Barnsley Farm into an organic dairy enterprise since taking its tenancy in 1997, expanding the business significantly over the years. Today, his family manages a 300-acre farm with 140 dairy cows. Miles emphasized his dedication to supporting farmers and ensuring the sustainability and success of Welsh agriculture in the coming years.
