Dale Farm and Aurivo Cancel Merger, Opt for Strategic Partnership

Dale Farm, based in Belfast, and Aurivo, located in Sligo, have decided not to proceed with their proposed merger. This decision follows months of negotiations, during which concerns were raised by Aurivo members about a potential shift in decision-making power and loss of regional control.

In a joint statement, both cooperatives announced the formation of a strategic partnership. This partnership will focus on collaborative projects, such as by-product utilization and added-value protein initiatives. A steering group with representatives from both organizations will oversee the partnership.

Aurivo members had previously voiced concerns in a letter to the Irish Farmers Journal, labeling the merger as a 'takeover' that might lead to significant job losses and transfer of property ownership outside the state. Despite these concerns, both cooperatives have emphasized the importance of working together to enhance the dairy industry's competitiveness globally.

Nick Whelan, Dale Farm's group chief executive, highlighted the strong relationship built with Aurivo over the past five years and underscored the strategic partnership's role in supporting long-term growth for the cooperatives' members.

This development marks a significant step for the dairy sector on the island of Ireland, as both cooperatives intend to utilize their combined expertise to deliver greater value to their members.
