DAHD Reviews Progress on White Revolution 2.0 to Strengthen Dairy Sector
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) recently held a high-level meeting at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, to review the progress of White Revolution 2.0. This initiative aims to bolster India's dairy sector through enhanced infrastructure, improved animal health services, and increased farmer incomes. The meeting was chaired by Shri Naresh Pal Gangwar, Secretary of DAHD, and attended by senior officials from both central and state governments, along with representatives from key dairy institutions.
Focus on Dairy Infrastructure
During the meeting, the status of dairy infrastructure projects across various states was reviewed. Discussions centered around the current milk processing capacity, cold chain networks, and facilities for value addition. Officials emphasized the urgency of accelerating infrastructure development to help farmers access better markets and minimize post-harvest losses.
Additionally, the modernization of dairy plants was highlighted as a significant aspect of the agenda. Utilizing advanced technology can enhance milk quality and operational efficiency, potentially leading to higher returns for farmers.
Animal Health Services
Animal health was identified as a critical priority in the review. The meeting examined existing disease control programs, vaccination campaigns, and the delivery of veterinary services. Ensuring the health of livestock is crucial for maintaining high milk production rates and securing better incomes for farmers.
The DAHD encouraged states to fortify veterinary infrastructure, particularly in rural and remote regions, to provide timely treatment and preventive care. Improving access to animal healthcare is vital for the success of White Revolution 2.0.
Enhancing Farmers’ Incomes
Measures to boost the earnings of dairy farmers were a central topic of discussion. The meeting explored ways to improve access to credit, extension services, and training programs to help farmers adopt better practices and manage their herds more effectively.
Furthermore, the role of dairy cooperatives and producer organizations was underscored as essential in ensuring fair prices, stable market access, and reduced risks for smallholders.
Coordination and Future Plans
Representatives from various states and union territories provided updates and raised practical challenges concerning funding, infrastructure, and manpower shortages. The DAHD assured ongoing support and a commitment to closer coordination.
Shri Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), also participated in the discussions, advocating for innovation, data-driven planning, and stronger value chains to enhance the sector's resilience.
The meeting aimed to align White Revolution 2.0 efforts with long-term goals for the dairy sector. The department plans to closely monitor progress and swiftly address any challenges to drive sustainable growth in India's dairy industry.
