Concern Over Budget Allocation for INALE in Uruguay

The projected five-year budget for Uruguay's National Dairy Institute (INALE) has stirred alarm within the industry due to its failure to account for pre-existing commitments. The institute is now operating without additional funds and risks ceasing operations if immediate budget adjustments are not made. An essential move, which involved redirecting industry contributions from LATU directly to INALE, was excluded from the latest allocation, leaving the institute without operational resources.
Until recently, INALE was able to sustain operations through reserves accumulated since its inception, but those funds have been depleted and cannot be reused. Both INALE and dairy associations agree the situation is dire: without swift budget revision, the institute might face closure.
Dairy producers and industry leaders urge the government to adjust the funding to ensure that INALE can continue serving as a technical reference and coordinating entity for Uruguay’s dairy sector.
