Colombian Livestock Exports Surpass USD 216 Million

The Colombian livestock sector has reached a significant milestone, realizing its best export performance in the last four years. According to figures from the Colombian Federation of Livestock Farmers (Fedegán) and the DANE, livestock exports, including meat, dairy, and live animals, surpassed USD 216 million in the first half of 2025. This result clearly indicates the sector's recovery in foreign trade.

Beef and bovine offal have been the main drivers of this growth, with exports reaching USD 89.5 million, significantly exceeding last year’s figures. Key markets for these products include China, Algeria, and Russia. Live animal exports also showed considerable growth, reaching USD 101.2 million, with Egypt, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia as major buyers.

The dairy sector also contributed to this success, with exports valued at USD 25.6 million, with Venezuela as the main destination. This growth across the board demonstrates the diversification and strength of the Colombian livestock sector. The good performance of exports is attributed to the stabilization of international prices and the recovery of the exchange rate.

However, the semester's success is not without challenges. Óscar Cubillos from Fedegán warns that the challenge now is to achieve sustained growth that consolidates international markets, avoiding the ups and downs that have characterized the sector in previous years. The key will be maintaining the export dynamic long-term so that Colombia can establish itself as a relevant and reliable player in the global livestock market.
