Co-op announces a major campaign to match Aldi's prices on everyday goods like milk, eggs, and bread, expanding savings to its 2,400 stores and online platforms.

Co-op has unveiled a comprehensive initiative aimed at matching Aldi's pricing on staple items such as milk, eggs, and bread, representing the retailer's largest campaign of this nature.
Starting on the 26th, these discounts will roll out across Co-op's 2,400 stores, in addition to being accessible via online delivery services like Shop.coop, Deliveroo, and Uber Eats.
This strategy focuses on aligning with Aldi's price points on products including fresh fruit, milk, eggs, and bread, benefiting Co-op's six million members with potential savings. Notably, Co-op is introducing specific price reductions: a pint of British milk will now cost 85p, 500g carrots will be available for 38p, 400g of chopped tomatoes for 47p, a six-pack of British medium free-range eggs for £1.45, and an 800g Tiger Bloomer loaf also for £1.45.
Matt Hood, Co-op's managing director, emphasized the strategic move, stating, "I am very clear that, in this current economic climate, price is most often the deciding food shopping factor for our members and customers, which is why we are taking this big step to price match." He also pointed out the importance of convenience without compromising on value, quality, or range. This decision comes at a time when other UK supermarkets like Asda have discontinued their Aldi and Lidl price matching efforts, and Tesco and Sainsbury's have reduced the scope of their similar campaigns.
