Buffalo Fatality as Dairy Farm Roof Collapses in Punjab Storm
A severe storm in Bhainibagha village, located in Mansa district, Punjab, led to the collapse of a dairy farm roof, resulting in the death of a buffalo and injuries to others. The roof, constructed from asbestos fibre sheets and iron girders, could not withstand the high-velocity winds that hit the area on Thursday, causing it to cave in. One buffalo sustained a fatal head injury from an iron girder.
The dairy farm is owned by Charan Singh, a former village sarpanch. In addition to the damage at the farm, the storm also brought a hailstorm to the village. Similar weather conditions were reported in other parts of Punjab, including Balochan village in Faridkot, Chotian in Sangrur, Rahudianwali in Muktsar, and Thuthianwali in Mansa.
The India Meteorological Department has issued weather alerts for the region, indicating that isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-60 kmph are expected in Punjab and Haryana on June 5 and 6. For Himachal Pradesh, fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with similar weather conditions is predicted during the same period.
An orange alert, indicating thunderstorm and lightning with gusty winds up to 60 kmph, has been issued for isolated places in Punjab and Haryana on June 5. A yellow alert for thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds up to 50 kmph is in place for June 6.
