Bangladesh Launches 'Pushti Kothha' to Promote Safe Milk Practices
The Green Dairy Partnership Project, backed by the Danida Green Business Partnership under Denmark's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has initiated 'Pushti Kothha', a program focused on promoting safe milk production and consumption practices in Bangladesh. The launch event took place at Bharat Bhaina High School in Keshabpur, Jashore, drawing over 600 participants, including students, teachers, farmers, and government officials.
The project, managed by Solidaridad Network Asia, involves notable partners such as PRAN Dairy, Arla Foods, IDRN–Bangladesh Agricultural University, SEGES Innovation, and the Danish Agriculture & Food Council. It aims for a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and seeks to enhance the incomes of 10,000 farmers, potentially impacting 50,000 households.
During the event, officials from the Department of Livestock Services, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, Arla Foods, and PRAN Dairy were present. Attendees received educational materials on milk hygiene, boiling, and storage, as well as dairy products to promote healthy habits.
The project builds on Arla's global 'Food Movers' concept and leverages Solidaridad's decade-long efforts to transform the smallholder dairy sector in Bangladesh through sustainability-focused and nutrition-based practices.
