Amul to Invest in Mega Dairy Plant in West Bengal
On Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari met with Jayen Mehta, the managing director of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), and Amit Vyas, head of Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union, also known as Amul Dairy, at the state secretariat. The meeting focused on Amul's planned business expansion in the state.
Amul has announced its intention to invest between Rs 600–650 crore to build its first wholly-owned, mega dairy processing plant at the Sankrail Food Park in Howrah, West Bengal. This plant is expected to host the world's largest curd manufacturing facility.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the potential for investment and the development of the dairy sector in West Bengal. Chief Minister Adhikari expressed optimism about the potential economic impact, stating that Amul's expansion would play a crucial role in the state's economic development and job creation.
The development of the dairy industry in West Bengal is expected to benefit from this significant investment, with the new facility likely to open up new opportunities for collaboration between Amul and the state.
Amul's move into West Bengal represents a strategic effort to expand its footprint in the eastern part of India, and the investment is seen as a significant step in enhancing the state's dairy production capabilities.
The discussions were described as very fruitful, with both parties hopeful that this initiative will lead to mutual cooperation and the opening of new horizons in the future.
