Amul Increases Milk Prices Across India Due to Rising Costs

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk under the Amul brand, has announced a price increase of Rs 2 per litre for milk across India. The new pricing will come into effect on May 14, reflecting a 2.5-3.5% increase per litre.

This price adjustment is attributed to the rising costs of operations and milk production, specifically due to higher expenses for cattle feed, milk packaging film, and fuel. The cooperative noted that these factors have significantly increased over the year.

In addition to the consumer price rise, GCMMF revealed that it has raised the procurement price for farmers by Rs 30 per kg of fat, representing a 3.7% increase compared to May 2025. This measure is aimed at sustaining remunerative prices for milk producers and encouraging increased milk production.

For regions like Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh, specific price adjustments for a 500 ml pack were detailed: slim N variant will cost Rs 27, Taaza Rs 30, cow milk Rs 31, and gold Rs 36. Additionally, the price of buffalo milk has been increased by Rs 4 per litre to Rs 80.

Amul states that approximately 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products goes back to the milk producers, which aligns with their policy to support farmers.

GCMMF is recognized as the world's largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, comprising 3.6 million farmers. It markets Amul milk and products across more than 50 countries, collecting 31 million litres of milk daily and annually distributing over 24 billion packs of Amul products including milk, butter, cheese, ghee, and ice cream.

In the fiscal year 2025-26, the total turnover of the Amul brand rose by 11%, surpassing the Rs 1 lakh crore milestone, driven by higher demand for dairy products. Simultaneously, GCMMF's turnover increased by 11.4% to Rs 73,450 crore from Rs 65,911 crore in the previous financial year.
