Amul Dairy Expands Genetic Capabilities with New Sexed Semen Laboratories
Amul Dairy has inaugurated two state-of-the-art sexed semen laboratories in Ode, strengthening its position in the dairy sector. The facilities were opened by Shri Sabhesinh Parmar, Chairman of Amul Dairy, in the presence of several key figures, including Shri Vijaybhai Fulabhai Patel, Vice Chairman, and Dr Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of GCMMF.
The Amul Gausort Sexed Semen Laboratory, developed in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has an initial capacity of 1 lakh sex-sorted doses annually, scalable to 5 lakh doses. This initiative is part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in November 2024. The second facility, the Amul Ge-Nova Sexed Semen Laboratory, is expected to produce approximately 0.7 million sexed semen doses annually in partnership with Genus ABS.
Together, these laboratories will enable a combined annual production capacity of around 1.4 million sexed semen doses. The Ode Semen Station, already a CMU-A grade and ISO 9001:2015 certified facility, has a wider capacity, producing 10 million conventional semen doses and 0.8 million sexed semen doses annually.
Amul Dairy currently supplies around 1.5 million doses of conventional and sexed semen within its milk shed and markets over 6.5 million doses annually across India. This expansion in sexed semen production is expected to benefit milk producers significantly and address the growing national demand for improved bovine genetics.
The event featured participation from senior representatives of Genus ABS and Amul Dairy, including Mr Jim Low, Chief Operating Officer, and Mr Kevin Hall, Senior Director – Supply Chain. Amul's focus on technological excellence and genetic advancement aims to position it as a trusted provider of bovine genetics solutions and contribute to sustainable growth in India's dairy sector.
