Yili Group Advances Precision Dairy Nutrition with Innovative Ingredients
Yili Group is navigating a transformative phase in the dairy industry by emphasizing high-value nutrition and personalized dairy products. Ignatius Szeto, vice president of Yili Group, highlighted the company's approach during a keynote speech at the Global Dairy Congress. He pointed out the shift from generic nutritional products to solutions tailored to specific health goals, such as gut health and immune support.
Central to Yili's strategy is the development of advanced dairy processing technologies. The company has made significant progress in producing high-purity lactoferrin powder, known for its immune-supporting properties, and other dairy components like natural cheese and demineralised whey. These innovations are part of Yili's effort to enhance the nutritional value of their products.
In collaboration with the National Technology Innovation Center for Dairy, Yili is working on the industrial application of extraction technologies for key ingredients such as β-casein and α-lactalbumin. The completion of Phase III of the Health Valley Global Intelligent Production Base of Cheese in China by 2026 is expected to bolster Yili’s manufacturing capabilities for premium dairy ingredients.
Yili is also focusing on sensory innovation to meet consumer demands for superior taste and texture. The Youngfun Chewy Lemon product exemplifies this with its multi-layered lemon experience, catering to younger consumers. Furthermore, Yili plans to introduce MiaoXian (Instant Fresh), a premium fresh milk brand utilizing ultra-instant sterilisation technology by 2026.
Integrating traditional Chinese health philosophy, Yili is exploring dietary therapy innovation with Tong Ren Tang to develop functional food and wellness products. The Xinhuo series of dietary formula milk powders targets specific health needs such as blood sugar control and bone health.
On the technological front, Yili has been recognized in the World Dairy Innovation Awards for its products, including Gonglao’s Hulunbuir Strain Milk Skin Yogurt and Changqing Lemon & Oat Popping Beads Probiotic Yogurt. These accolades reflect Yili's commitment to consumer-centric innovation and its global R&D network.
