Wisconsin Dairy Farms Enhance Education Through 'Adopt a Cow' Program
Wisconsin dairy farms are engaging students through the 'Adopt a Cow' program, an educational initiative designed to enhance students' understanding of dairy farming. The program offers students the chance to follow the growth of a calf from a working dairy farm, providing updates and information on animal care, nutrition, and farm management.
The Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin and Discover Dairy are facilitating this program for the 2026–27 school year, aiming to improve transparency in the dairy industry and foster a deeper understanding of food production systems. Participating classrooms receive regular updates, photos, and insights into the daily lives of their adopted calves, bridging the gap between urban and rural communities.
The initiative underscores the importance of agricultural education and outreach in the dairy sector, addressing consumer demands for greater visibility into farming practices, animal welfare, and sustainability. By participating, dairy farms also showcase advancements in herd management and responsible milk production practices.
This program reflects a broader trend in the dairy industry towards interactive educational efforts to strengthen public trust and engagement. As the industry evolves, such initiatives are increasingly vital in promoting the social value and sustainability of dairy farming, both domestically and globally.
