White Lake Cheese Achieves Dual 3-Star Awards at Great Taste 2026
White Lake Cheese, a renowned cheese maker based in Somerset, UK, achieved significant recognition at the Great Taste 2026 awards, obtaining 3-star ratings for two of its cheeses. In a competitive field of 15,000 international entries, both the Moo’dy Blue and The English Pecorino were awarded the highest possible rating, an accolade given to products considered 'extraordinarily tasty' by the judges.
Moo’dy Blue, which was launched last year, is a semi-soft blue cheese inspired by classic French styles like Fourme d’Ambert. It features delicate blue veining and a rich creamy texture due to the golden raw Jersey milk, creating a complex yet mild flavor profile. The Great Taste judges praised Moo’dy Blue as “an exceptional blue cheese made with real skill to deliver a wonderful, balanced flavour profile,” citing its “creamy mouthfeel” and “stunning flavour that is smooth, rich, creamy and on-point with the blue.”
The English Pecorino, a longstanding favorite, gained prominence in 2019 when it was named Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Awards. This hard sheep’s milk cheese, inspired by its Italian counterpart, is matured for five months to achieve optimal flavor development while maintaining a creamy texture. Judges commended the cheese for its “mature depth” and “roller-coaster of sweetness and umami with nuttiness following in the wake.”
In addition to these achievements, White Lake’s Solstice cheese, a soft Jersey cow’s milk cheese washed in local Somerset Cider Brandy, received a Great Taste 1-star award. Roger Longman, owner and founder of White Lake Cheese, expressed his excitement over the accolades, stating that winning 3-stars for two products in the same year is “beyond exciting” and serves as a benchmark for measuring their products against the best in the UK and beyond.
