Which is the Best Milk in Mexico in 2025? Profeco Reveals the Results

Profeco evaluated more than 20 milk brands and, after an exhaustive analysis, determined which is currently the best available in stores and supermarkets across Mexico. The analysis considered factors such as freshness, nutritional contribution, and flavor to conclude which is the best, while also highlighting the worst ones.

Profeco Reveals the Best Milk in the Mexican Market

The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) announced in its latest study about dairy product quality that Lala 100 Fresca is the best milk in Mexico in 2025. The assessment reviewed 20 brands of whole, semi-skimmed, and lactose-free milk available in supermarkets, evaluating aspects like nutritional content, labeling, sanitary quality, and compliance with official standards.

It was verified that it contains 100% cow's milk without mixes or additives that might alter its composition. Profeco highlighted the following attributes:

  • Real protein contribution (3.2 g per 100 ml).
  • Proper calcium presence, essential for bone health.
  • Absence of starch or unallowed added ingredients.
  • Fresh taste and natural consistency, without treatments altering its structure.
  • Additionally, its pasteurization process ensures microbiological safety without sacrificing nutrients, making it reliable milk for all ages.

Other Well-Evaluated Milk Brands

While Lala 100 Fresca topped the list, other brands also received good ratings from Profeco. Among the most notable are:

Alpura Clásica: Meets the required fat and protein levels as per standards. It offers consistent flavor and quality.

Santa Clara entera: Recognized for its purity and high-quality pasteurization process.

Great Value entera (Walmart brand): Surprised with its good quality-price ratio, without nutritional deficiencies.

Aurrera entera: Although an economical brand, met the basic parameters of whole cow's milk.

These brands offer reliable alternatives depending on the consumer's budget, without compromising nutritional quality.

Brands That Did Not Meet Standards

Contrastingly, some brands were graded poorly by Profeco for containing undeclared ingredients, having less protein, or using starches to alter texture. Some even label as "milk" products that are actually dairy formulas, which can confuse consumers. Therefore, Profeco suggests thoroughly reading labels, checking ingredients, and choosing products clearly marked as "100% cow's milk."

Recommendations for choosing the best milk:

  • Ensure it states "100% cow's milk."
  • Check the protein content (minimum 3 g per 100 ml).
  • Avoid products with starches, non-dairy solids, or added vegetable fats.
  • Prefer brands compliant with NOM-155-SCFI-2012.
  • Consider freshness, expiration date, and pasteurization type.

Milk is a staple in the Mexican diet, and its quality directly affects health. Thanks to Profeco's study, we now know Lala 100 Fresca is the best milk in Mexico, followed by brands like Alpura, Santa Clara, and Great Value. Already know what milk you're drinking?
