Uttar Pradesh's 50% Subsidy Boosts Indigenous Dairy Investment
Uttar Pradesh is implementing the 'Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana' to bolster indigenous dairy farming by offering a 50% subsidy for establishing 25-cow units. The initiative is a part of the broader 'Nand Baba Mission' led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aimed at cow conservation and sustainable income generation.
The scheme supports the establishment of self-contained dairy units, requiring substantial investment, such as ₹62.55 lakh per unit. The government subsidizes 50% of these costs, significantly lowering the financial barrier for farmers. Beneficiaries like Indu Singh have received grants of ₹31.25 lakh, enabling the setup of high-quality herds and infrastructure.
A key feature of the program is the integration of sex-sorted semen-based artificial insemination, which increases the likelihood of female calf births, optimizing herd replacement and ensuring future income stability. Milk from indigenous breeds such as Sahiwal is sold at premium prices, reaching ₹100 per liter due to its superior quality.
The program's impact extends beyond milk production. Beneficiaries plan to engage in milk processing and produce items such as paneer and butter, along with products derived from cow dung and urine. This approach fosters a resilient dairy value chain and generates local employment, with each unit supporting up to four jobs.
