Uruguayan University Develops Adhesive from Dairy By-Products
The University of Technology (UTEC) in Uruguay is pioneering a novel approach to utilizing by-products from the dairy industry. This initiative involves the development of a natural adhesive derived from lactoserum, a by-product of the dairy processing sector.
Traditionally considered waste, lactoserum is now being transformed into a useful commercial product, showcasing the potential for sustainable innovation within the dairy industry. This development is part of a broader effort to improve the environmental impact of dairy production by finding new uses for its by-products.
As of March 2026, the project has gained attention for its potential to reduce waste and create value-added products from what was previously discarded material. The UTEC's research highlights the role of biotechnology in advancing the sustainability of the dairy industry.
