The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) organized its first dairy export mission to the Middle East, visiting Saudi Arabia and Kuwait fr om October 25-30. This mission was co-funded by the UK's Department for Business and Trade (DBT) as part of the UK Dairy Export Programme, aiming to strengthen trade ties in the region.

A delegation of British dairy businesses, including Bradbury’s Cheese, First Milk Cheese Company, Kendamil Nutricare, Rachel’s Organic, and Yorkshire Dama Cheese, attended the mission. They engaged with more than 20 retail and food service buyers to explore new export opportunities and partnerships.

The mission featured market briefings and networking events showcasing a variety of British dairy products, such as cheddars, speciality cheeses, organic yogurt, halloumi, and infant formula. The AHDB's analysis in its 'Prospects for UK agri-food exports' report indicates that the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is projected to become the second-largest food importer by 2031.

Adil Khan, AHDB's representative in the Middle East, emphasized the initiative as a significant step in promoting the quality and diversity of British dairy products. He noted that increased tourism in Saudi Arabia presents new opportunities in the food service sector, while e-commerce expansion in retail also offers strong prospects for UK dairy exports.

Trade missions like this connect UK dairy exporters with potential customers, helping them realize their products' potential in the Middle East. The focus is on key dairy products, particularly cheese, butter, and infant formula, wh ere demand is growing alongside retail sector developments.
