The tragic incident occurred when the storms hit on Tuesday night, causing the man's death at a Darlimurla property. WorkSafe Victoria is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatality, with initial reports indicating that the farmer was struck by debris while working on the property.

As the state grapples with the aftermath of bushfires and adverse weather conditions, widespread power outages affect over 134,000 customers. Homes have been lost, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed in western Victoria, where bushfires continue. Electricity outages, particularly in eastern Victoria, have left more than 3,000 customers without power, many of whom rely on electricity for life support or medical reasons.

Telecommunication issues persist with hundreds of phone towers down across Optus and Telstra networks. Furthermore, about 148,000 NBN customers face internet disruptions. The outages have led to the closure of around 80 schools and early childhood services in central and western Victoria, along with accessibility, sewage, and water problems.

Public transportation, including train services, has been affected, with buses replacing trains on the Belgrave line in Melbourne and on the V/Line service between Traralgon and Bairnsdale. Health services, including Wonthaggi hospital and Phillip Island health hub, experienced disruptions, with surgeries canceled for patients.

The Victorian Premier, Jacinta Allan, confirmed that the catastrophic bushfire risk, declared on Tuesday, has been downgraded to extreme. Fire crews are working to control the ongoing bushfires, and recovery efforts are underway, with the State Emergency Service deploying 124 units to assist. The government is actively managing the situation, but challenges persist, and the full impact of the weather events is yet to be determined.
