Telangana to Supply Vijaya Dairy Milk to School Students
The Telangana government is set to provide milk from the state-owned Vijaya Dairy to more than 27 lakh students across government schools and anganwadis. This decision was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka during a high-level meeting at the state secretariat. The meeting included discussions with Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari and senior officials on the logistics and feasibility of the initiative.
During the meeting, the current milk consumption in the state was analyzed, along with the procurement processes and pending payments to dairy farmers. Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized the necessity of compiling accurate statistics on the state’s total milk production. Officials have been directed to conduct field assessments to determine the actual number of milch animals and to calculate milk production.
Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka highlighted the importance of having a clear policy regarding the pricing of milk procured from farmers. He stressed that farmers should receive their payments promptly to avoid any pending dues. Furthermore, payments for milk supplied to schools are to be directly transferred by welfare departments to the respective agencies, ensuring no delays in compensating farmers.
The deputy chief minister noted that the dairy industry is crucial for many rural inhabitants, and timely payments would financially empower farmers, encouraging them to continue supplying milk confidently. He suggested adopting modern techniques to enhance the profitability of the dairy industry and to significantly boost milk production in Telangana.
Additionally, Vikramarka underlined the need for measures to provide farmers with supplementary livelihood opportunities through the dairy sector. This initiative aligns with the Congress government's broader strategy to support and strengthen the financial stability of farmers reliant on the dairy industry.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has assured his support for providing economic security to the dairy farmers, reflecting the government’s commitment to reinforcing the state-run Vijaya Dairy and the livelihoods of those dependent on it.
