Vijaya Dairy: Expanding Horizons in Telangana's Dairy Market
Vijaya Dairy, operated by the Telangana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Ltd., plays a significant role in the regional dairy industry. With its base in Vijayawada, the cooperative is dedicated to expanding its market presence across Telangana through strategic initiatives and community involvement.
Recent Developments
In a bid to strengthen its foothold in the dairy market, Vijaya Dairy has opened 50 new dairy parlours within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits and an additional 25 outlets in rural areas. This expansion is a crucial part of the company's broader strategy to increase product availability and market presence.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, Vijaya Dairy plans to establish between 400 to 500 new dairy parlours over the next three to four years. This ambitious initiative aims to boost sales and offer entrepreneurial opportunities for individuals to open parlours throughout Telangana. In the immediate future, the company plans to open another 25 parlours, focusing particularly on high-density urban areas in Hyderabad.
Community Involvement
The cooperative is actively involved in managing milk distribution for the school nutrition program. By packaging milk in tetra packs, Vijaya Dairy supports community health and nutrition, ensuring easy storage and transportation. The cooperative also plays a vital role in producing and distributing pasteurized, flavored milk packets to thousands of schools across Telangana, reaching over 2.7 million students in government schools and anganwadis.
Price Adjustments
Vijaya Dairy recently announced a price increase due to rising procurement and operational costs. The price paid to farmers for buffalo milk at 10% fat has been increased from ₹82 to ₹85 per litre, and cow milk from ₹29 to ₹31 per litre. Retail prices have also been revised, with low-fat milk priced at ₹56 per litre, economy milk at ₹60, premium milk at ₹64, and full cream milk at ₹74. From August 10, the price of full-cream milk will rise to Rs 80 per litre.
Challenges and Allegations
Vijaya Dairy, described as a cooperative where farmers elect their representatives under the MACS Act, faces challenges such as allegations from Perni Venkatramaiah. He claims that Naidu and Lokesh are conspiring to undermine Vijaya Dairy to expand Heritage Dairy's presence in coastal Andhra.
