Telangana's New Milk Scheme to Benefit Students and Farmers Alike

In an effort to enhance nutritional support for students and stabilize local dairy farming, the Telangana state government has launched a milk scheme benefiting 29 lakh students. The initiative involves a partnership with the Telangana State Cooperative Consumers’ Federation and its flagship brand, Vijaya Dairy, to manage the production and distribution of pasteurized, flavored milk packets to thousands of schools across the state.

The cooperative processing union will handle the manufacturing, packaging, and logistics of the milk distribution, ensuring that the milk reaches schools in both urban and rural areas under strict food safety standards. This strategic collaboration allows the state-owned dairy systems to optimize their current processing lines.

From an economic perspective, this scheme provides a steady demand for regional dairy farmers, offering a reliable income stream that protects them from seasonal fluctuations and market volatility. By channeling state funds through the cooperative network, the program injects capital into rural areas, supporting farmgate prices and encouraging cattle herd retention.
