Saras Dairy Implements Second Milk Price Increase in Rajasthan
Palsana Saras Dairy has implemented a price increase for liquid milk by ₹2 per liter across Rajasthan. This marks the second such increase in a span of 35 days, as confirmed by the management of Sikar and Jhunjhunu District Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited. The new prices took effect immediately, adding financial pressure to consumers in the region.
The cooperative attributes this decision to rising operational costs, which include increased expenses for raw packaging materials, fuel, transportation, and farmgate milk production. Saras Dairy has also adjusted its packaging strategy, limiting product sizes to 500 milliliters, 1000 milliliters, and 6-liter packs to optimize inventory handling.
The price adjustment has met with resistance from the Saras Dairy Vendors Association, which has demanded higher commission rates to offset stagnant income margins. Rakesh Dhimwa, the association's district president, has indicated that if their demands are not addressed, they may initiate a coordinated protest.
Despite repeated grievances raised by local distributors, cooperative administrators have yet to address these concerns. The vendors warn that continued inaction could disrupt milk supply in urban areas. This situation highlights how rising costs can destabilize distribution networks and affect milk availability.
Overall, this development underscores the challenges faced by dairy cooperatives in managing costs and maintaining supply chains amidst inflationary pressures.
