Purabi Dairy Expands into Sweets Market, Supporting Assam's Dairy Farmers
Purabi Dairy, Northeast India's largest dairy cooperative, has made a strategic move into the traditional Indian sweets market with the launch of Purabi Mithai. The sweets are produced by the West Assam Milk Producers' Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) and marketed by Northeast Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), which is a joint venture of the Government of Assam and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
Satya Brata Bose, Managing Director of NEDFL, remarked on the expansion, highlighting that Purabi Mithai is seen as a natural extension of Purabi's trusted dairy products. He emphasized the commitment to offering fresh, authentic, and hygienically prepared sweets.
According to Sameer Kumar Parida, Managing Director of WAMUL, the introduction of Purabi Mithai is designed to create more value for farmers by increasing milk procurement and ensuring better returns for producer members. This initiative aligns with Assam's broader vision of strengthening its dairy ecosystem.
During the state-level celebrations of National Milk Day, which commemorates the contributions of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the Assam government recognized five dairy farmers associated with Purabi Dairy for their outstanding contributions to the industry.
The launch of the sweets line marks a significant development in Purabi Dairy's efforts to diversify and expand its market presence while supporting the local agricultural community.
