The production of market milk in Russia increased by 2.6% in the first quarter of 2025

The key drivers of growth were regions with well-developed industrial livestock farming:
-
Republic of Tatarstan — +34 thousand tons
-
Penza Region — +18 thousand tons
-
Kirov Region and Udmurtia — +14 thousand tons each
At the same time, a decline in production was observed in several regions, including:
-
Irkutsk, Kursk, and Tyumen regions
-
Kabardino-Balkaria — each saw a decrease of around 5 thousand tons
Across all categories of farms (including household plots and private farms), gross milk output in Q1 2025 reached 7.6 million tons, showing a 0.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
According to Soyuzmoloko, the positive trend continues in most regions due to:
-
increased milk productivity per cow (on average +5%)
-
mild weather conditions during the winter season
However, a decline in cattle numbers is limiting growth and leading to reduced production volumes in regions with extensive livestock farming, particularly in Siberia and the Urals, despite gains in per-cow milk yield.
