Palm oil imports to India reached an 11-month high in June

Main reasons for the increase:
-
Low domestic stocks
-
Significant price drop: palm oil is about $100/ton cheaper than soybean and sunflower oils
-
Increased buying by refiners due to the price discount
“Palm oil is regaining market share. It is currently almost $100 cheaper than its competitors,” said Sandeep Bajoria, CEO of Sunvin Group.
India's import dynamics:
-
Average monthly palm oil imports over the first seven months of the current marketing year (through October 2025): 475,699 tonnes
-
For comparison: in the previous season — over 750,000 tonnes/month
At the same time:
-
Soybean oil imports in June fell by 9% to 363,000 tonnes
-
Sunflower oil imports rose by 18% to 216,000 tonnes
As a result, India’s total vegetable oil imports in June reached 1.53 million tonnes — up 30% from May, and the highest level since November 2024.
Palm oil imports are expected to remain high in the coming months due to lower prices and increased production.
