Organic Valley, America’s largest organic farmer-owned cooperative, has announced the appointment of Shawna Nelson as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective March 28. Nelson's nearly 20-year tenure with Organic Valley spans roles fr om intern to CEO, having her lead various strategic initiatives across the cooperative. Under her leadership, the co-op aims to continue its commitment to organic farming excellence. The outgoing CEO, Jeff Frank, leaves a legacy of unprecedented financial success and market leadership, paving the way for Nelson's new chapter. Dave Hardy, Organic Valley farmer and board president, praised Nelson’s leadership qualities, asserting her fitment to steer the cooperative forward.
With a background rooted in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin, wh ere Organic Valley originated, Nelson brings a unique perspective and a strong connection to the cooperative's foundational values. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and lives in La Farge, Wisconsin. Nelson stressed her enthusiasm for building upon the cooperative's momentum and continuing to deliver on its mission to support organic family farms. Organic Valley was founded in 1988 and champions the stewardship of small organic family farms, compliant with the USDA National Organic Program.
